featuring an 18-hole Donald Ross Golf Course, Tennis Center,
Junior Olympic Swimming Pool and cabana. The Club offers ala-carte
fine dining, banquets, and meeting facilities for breakfast,
lunch and dinner. In addition, the Club sponsors numerous
Member social functions throughout the year.

Benvenue is located minutes from Downtown
Rocky Mount, North Carolina on a pristine tract of land featuring
lakes, streams, rolling hills and trees and greenery native
to eastern North Carolina. The club was founded in 1922 and
built on a part of the Bunn Farm, approximately 2 miles from
Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

The name of the Club “Benvenue”
is not, as often surmised, a misspelling of the French word
meaning, “Welcome”. It was the name adopted by
Mr. B.H. Bunn for his home plantation, of which the Club grounds
were formerly a part. Benvenue is a mountain in Scotland in
the Trossack Range, and is located near the shore on Lake
Katrin. Mr. Bunn was attracted to the word while reading Sir
Walter Scott’s Poem “The Lady of the Lake”.
He often found solace and grandeur of his native land. Among
other places, the word occurs in the fifth stanza of the first
canto: “But nearer was the copse wood gray that waved
and wept on Loch-Achray and mingles with the pine trees blue
on the bold cliffs of “Benvenue”.”

The legendary Donald Ross designed the golf
course in 1922. The original two-story clubhouse building
was also constructed in 1922. A major $5.0 million renovation
and expansion of the clubhouse and patio was completed in
May of 2002. Benvenue Country Club is proud to have the finest
country club facilities East of Raleigh. Also included on
site are a tennis center, swimming pool, and cabana. Benvenue
is a full service country club that has members of all ages.
